this is something that former president clinton said during the campaign. it's arithmetic. given the choice between the millionaires and billionaires and the middle class, the republicans again sided with the wealthy of this country. their plan doesn't just keep rates low for the richest 2%, it actually lowers them further. the democrats' plan would protect 98% of families and 97% of small businesses from painful tax increases by asking the top 2% to pay a little bit more. the republicans' plan, on the other hand, is more of the same. not only does 2 balance the budget on the backs of the middle class, it voids our promise to seniors with steep cuts to social security and medicare, all to pay for even more handouts to the rich. at least we now know where they stand. republicans have sought to cover by invok invoking erskine bowle' name. he has disavowed their plan. we're glad to see the republicans join in the negotiating process. while their proposal may be serious, it's also a nonstarter. they know any agreement that raises taxes on the middle class in order to protect mo

it's only after that that the taxes go back to clinton era. and because this is a different time and place, i support giving a tax break, continuing it for 98%, but asking the wealthiest to pay their fair share for the greatest country on the face of this earth. my father was born into dire poverty. he was the only one of nine children born in america. he was the only one of nine children to go to college at night in your great state, madam president. city college. at night. while he supported a family by day. he became a c.p.a., and after he got his bachelor's, he went at night to a place called brooklyn law school, where he got his law degree in five years. i was about ten. this is america. he was able to do that. and when he was a c.p.a., he would oversee everybody's taxes in the family. and i was a kid, and i got my first job working for a long time. i was a telephone operator for hilton hotels one summer. i'll never forget it. i was not good at it. i kept putting the -- those wires into the wrong places. but i managed to get through. and

we started later in '08 for a variety of reasons than had the clinton campaign. this time you had a latino vote director in chicago in a year out -- >> wow. >> you had many more people in chicago dedicated to, um, targeting latino voters, finding them and communicating with them in that whole spectrum of ways you've heard about the obama campaign communicating with folks, with new technologies. you also had a lot of segmentation. one of the reasons that i was able to do, um, interviews in all the places that i talked about, i happen to speak a very neutral spanish. you can't really place my spanish geographically. kind of quirky set of reasons. and that allowed osa to use me in multiple places. i did one interview all fall, which was orlando, which has a large spanish-language media, but it's a puerto rican electorate. and you don't need somebody with my skill set or even my neutral spanish speaking to puerto ricans. you need fellow puerto ricans speaking to puerto ricans. and that's also true in other parts of the country. there was a much more deliberate effort
